FOIA Request to Jackson County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Athens Reporter have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act ยง 50.18.70 et seq., to the Jackson County Election Department.

Our request includes detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we are seeking the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We have also asked for each candidate’s party affiliation.

In addition to this, we have requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

Access to public records is essential for us at Athens Reporter as it enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
