In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Athens Reporter have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act ยง 50.18.70 et seq., to the Clarke County Election Department. The request, sent on February 5, 2025, seeks information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

Specifically, we asked for a list of all candidates that includes their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and party affiliation. In addition to this basic information about each candidate’s candidacy, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number and email address.

We believe that by sharing this information with the public we can help foster an informed electorate ahead of the upcoming elections.

We have requested that these records be provided in electronic format for ease of dissemination and analysis. Furthermore, given our role as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as per provisions available for media professionals.

We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information regarding this request.
