Five schools in the Jackson County School System have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for their achievements in literacy and mathematics. Gum Springs Elementary School and Legacy Knoll Middle School received honors as both Literacy and Math Leaders. West Jackson Elementary School was named a Literacy Leader, while Maysville Elementary School and West Jackson Middle School were recognized as Math Leaders.

Gum Springs Elementary and West Jackson Elementary attained Literacy Leader status due to notable increases in third-grade students reading at or above grade level. Legacy Knoll Middle School was acknowledged for its progress in sixth-grade gateway growth and eighth-grade growth, showing improvements in literacy achievement across multiple grades.

In mathematics, Gum Springs Elementary and Maysville Elementary were honored for third-grade growth and fifth-grade gateway growth, indicating significant improvement in the number of students scoring proficient or higher on the Georgia Milestones assessments. Legacy Knoll Middle School was also recognized for eighth-grade growth and high school achievement, while West Jackson Middle School received recognition for high school achievement in mathematics.

According to the press release, “These distinctions underscore the dedication of JCSS educators and students to academic growth and excellence across all grade levels.”
