The Empower College and Career Center has received the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School designation, which is the highest recognition given by the organization.

Empower achieved this honor by meeting standards in nine areas associated with high-performing schools. These areas include student focus and support, school organization and culture, challenging standards and curriculum, active teaching and learning, technology integration, professional community, leadership and educational vitality, partnerships with families and the community, as well as indicators of success.

With this award, Empower becomes the sixth school in the Jackson County School System to receive such recognition. Other schools that have previously earned this distinction are East Jackson Elementary School, Maysville Elementary School, East Jackson High School, West Jackson Middle School, and South Jackson Elementary School.

The Blue Ribbon Lighthouse certification will be valid for five years for Empower. During this period, the school will be able to work with other schools at local, regional, and national levels on best practices. It will also offer mentoring and networking opportunities to schools seeking guidance on improvement initiatives.

“The Empower College and Career Center met the required criteria in nine performance areas of high performing schools required for the prestigious recognition. Empower was recognized for its student focus and support; school organization and culture; challenging standard and curriculum; active teaching and learning; technology and integration; professional community; leadership and education vitality; school, family and community partnerships; and indicators of success.”
