The Georgia Department of Education reported that East Jackson Elementary School had 5 American Indian or Alaska Native students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, a 16.7% decrease compared to the prior year.

During 2024-25, East Jackson Elementary School had a total of 577 students enrolled. American Indian or Alaska Native students represented 1% of the school’s population, placing them among the school’s smallest demographic groups.

East Jackson Elementary is part of the Jackson County School District, which is headquartered in Jefferson.

Out of the 10 schools within the Jackson County School District, West Jackson Elementary School reported the largest American Indian or Alaska Native student enrollment for 2024-25, with 10 students.

Statewide, Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report shows. Elementary students made up the largest share at 787,206 (45.9%), while there were 388,733 middle school students (22.7%) and 539,092 high school students (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism is still a key concern for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of their school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE has started a statewide initiative that includes a live attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and support for districts with higher needs to improve attendance rates.

In 2025, state lawmakers updated attendance regulations to prohibit expulsion based only on absenteeism. The legislation also introduced reporting changes and coordinates with programs offering students alternative diploma pathways.

As of 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, which is lower than the national average of 15:1.
