According to the data, total enrollment at Dove Creek Elementary reached 530 students during the 2024-25 school year. African American students comprised 3% of the overall student population, representing the smallest demographic group enrolled at the school.

Dove Creek Elementary is part of the Oconee County School District, which has its headquarters in Watkinsville.

Oconee County High School reported the highest African American student enrollment within the district for 2024-25, at 51 students across the Oconee County School District’s 11 schools.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that the racial and ethnic demographics of Georgia’s public school students were estimated at 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a notable challenge for Georgia schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, as indicated by the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the Georgia Department of Education launched a statewide initiative featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a statewide awareness drive, and targeted support for districts with the highest needs to help reduce absences.

Georgia lawmakers updated attendance policies in 2025, passing a bill that prohibits expulsion solely for absenteeism and introduces new reporting obligations, bringing the law in line with programs that allow students to pursue diplomas through alternative options. Details on the legislation can be found here.

By 2026, Georgia reported an average student-to-teacher ratio around 14:1, which is an improvement compared to the national average of 15:1.
