County of Oconee issued the following announcement on June 8.
New structure will provide convenience of “one-stop” local government services
Oconee County Government will host an official groundbreaking for its new Administrative Building, located at the intersection of State Route 15/Macon Highway and U.S. 441/Veterans Memorial Parkway on Thursday, June 30, at 10 a.m.
The 44,000-square-foot building will house the non-judicial government functions currently located in the Oconee County Courthouse and the Oconee County Annex, as well as other accessory buildings. Consolidation of these departments and offices in one location will provide for increased efficiency, as well as convenience for customers. The site, located across from Fire Station 1, enjoys multiple road frontages that are easily accessible by residents in all areas of the county.
“The Administrative Building will be the culmination of a generational project that was first discussed in 2004,” said County Administrator Justin Kirouac. “It will provide a one-stop shop for citizens, allowing them to visit the tag office, get building permits, and vote all in one location. In addition to providing the necessary space for the county’s administrative functions, it has the dual benefit of freeing necessary space in the courthouse, allowing it to transform into a true judicial building.”
Construction of the Administration Building is expected to be complete in mid-2023.
