At the Thursday, Jan. 12, meeting of the Clarke County Board of Education, the Board voted to appoint Claudia Butts to fill the vacant District 2 seat. Ms. Butts will be sworn in ahead of the Board’s next scheduled meeting on Feb. 2 and will replace former District 2 board member Kirrena Gallagher, who resigned her seat in December 2022. Ms. Butts will serve the remainder of the current District 2 term, which will expire Dec. 31, 2024.

The Board filled the vacancy pursuant to state law after opening an application period to qualified District 2 residents. The Board received three applications and heard presentations from each candidate at Thursday’s meeting prior to its vote.
