In the 2024-25 school year, Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy saw 56 Asian students enroll, marking a 12.5% decrease compared to the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Total enrollment for the school reached 948 students in 2024-25. Asian students represented 6% of the population, the second-smallest demographic group at the school.

Located in the Barrow County School District, Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy’s central office is in Winder.

Out of 16 schools in the Barrow County School District, Winder-Barrow High School had the largest number of Asian students in the 2024-25 school year, with 109 enrolled.

The National Center for Education Statistics reported that public school students in Georgia in recent years were about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Post-pandemic, chronic absenteeism has persisted as a significant challenge for Georgia schools, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address the issue, the Georgia Department of Education launched new initiatives featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, an awareness campaign, and additional support for districts most impacted.

In 2025, Georgia lawmakers approved legislation amending school attendance laws to prohibit expulsion based solely on absenteeism. The new law establishes added reporting requirements and supports alternative routes for students to earn diplomas.

Data from 2026 showed that Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
