The month begins with the Breadbasket Benefit on April 9 at The Classic Center. This inaugural event will support Bread for Life, a local nonprofit focused on helping Athens youth through hospitality training and career experience. On April 10, actor Cary Elwes will appear at The Classic Center Theatre for “The Princess Bride: An Inconceivable Evening,” featuring a film screening followed by a discussion with behind-the-scenes stories.

Author David Sedaris is set to perform readings from his latest works on April 16. Sports fans can attend the Athens Rock Lobsters’ first playoff game in the Federal Prospects Hockey League Commissioner’s Cup at Akins Ford Arena on April 17. Music lovers will have the chance to see Gov’t Mule and Larkin Poe perform live at The Classic Center Theatre on April 19.

Ballets Jazz Montréal will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary with a performance inspired by Leonard Cohen’s work on April 21. Later in the month, “Launching the Vision: A First Look at the Center for Racial Justice and Black Futures” will mark the start of construction for this new community initiative dedicated to education and advancing Black futures in Athens.

Akins Ford Arena can accommodate over 8,000 guests and hosts concerts, conventions, sporting events, and family shows as part of its mission to enhance Athens’ economic and cultural life.
