Athens On Ice has opened for the season in Athens, Georgia, offering new features aimed at families and children. The event is the only ice-skating rink in the region and is recognized as a key holiday attraction for local residents.
This year’s offerings include the Tinsel Trail, which is presented by Women in Construction and The Classic Center Cultural Foundation. Decorated trees sponsored by area businesses and organizations line a walkway from Downtown Athens to Athens On Ice.
A new addition this season is Toddler Skate, available on select days for children five years old and younger. This initiative aims to provide a safe introduction to skating for young children.
Other enhancements include increased festive lighting throughout the Pavilion. Food options have also expanded; guests can purchase grilled concessions, s’mores, and hot chocolate on Fridays after 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays through Levy Restaurants. Availability of these food stations may change depending on dates.
“Athens On Ice stands as a cornerstone of the holiday season, offering a dynamic winter experience for guests of all ages. Join the celebration on the ice this season,” organizers stated in their announcement.
The Classic Center, which hosts Athens On Ice, serves as a multi-use conference center with facilities that include an outdoor pavilion and performing arts theatre. Its recently opened Akins Ford Arena increases its capacity to host events accommodating more than 8,000 attendees.
