The Athens-Clarke County Elections Department is set to begin Logic and Accuracy Testing of voting equipment ahead of the December 9, 2025 Special Election. The process will start on Thursday, November 13, at 10:00 AM at the Facilities and Landscape Management Building located at 2555 Lexington Road in Athens, Georgia. Testing will continue daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM until all units are verified.

Political parties, news media, and members of the public are invited to observe the testing procedures.

State law in Georgia mandates that Logic and Accuracy tests be conducted before every election using established protocols. During these tests, staff will assess paper-based voting machines, check-in systems, and optical scanners for absentee ballots. The process starts with receiving a secure election database from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office. This database is used to create memory cards for the voting equipment, program machines, and generate ballots and reports.

The department then verifies several steps including voter access card creation, ballot display on screens, paper ballot printing and scanning, vote collection, and result tabulation. All touch-screen units undergo visual checks for races, headers, race titles, candidates’ names, and their order. Ballots are also checked for audio support and magnification features to assist voters.

After passing all tests, each machine is sealed and stored securely with restricted access until Election Day. The Elections Department states it complies with all relevant state laws regarding equipment testing and storage.

Athens-Clarke County voters residing in State House District 121 will participate in the Special Election on December 9.
