The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s Transportation and Public Works Department is seeking input from residents on updates to the Athens in Motion Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The department is collecting feedback through an online survey available until December 7 at www.accgov.com/athensinmotion. The website also provides background information, a map of improvements, the original plan, and options for residents to sign up for notifications about the project.

The Athens in Motion Master Plan was first approved by the Mayor and Commission on October 2, 2018. The plan aims to create a safe and connected network for cyclists and pedestrians throughout Athens-Clarke County. A volunteer group known as the Athens in Motion Commission works with staff from Transportation and Public Works to develop, implement, and update the plan.

The current update will address new community needs and set a clear direction for future transportation initiatives focused on walking and biking. One of the main elements is a revised vision network that identifies areas where sidewalk and bikeway investments can have significant impact.

Community feedback gathered from both in-person events and the online survey will help guide how projects are prioritized before recommendations are made to local officials. In collaboration with Toole Design consultants, the commission will establish a list of priority projects and a framework for future investments over the coming months.

For additional details or to participate in the survey before December 7, residents can visit www.accgov.com/athensinmotion or call 706-613-3440.
