The Athens-Clarke County Elections Department announced on June 4 that absentee ballots have begun mailing for the June 16 General Primary Election and Nonpartisan Runoff. Applications for absentee ballots are available online or at the Elections Office, with the deadline to request a ballot set for Friday, June 5.
Voter registration for most races closed on April 20. Anyone who registered in Georgia after April 21 will only be eligible to vote in federal contests, with the only federal runoff being U.S. Senator on the Republican ballot. All registered voters, including those who did not participate in the May 19 election, are eligible to vote in this runoff.
Composite sample ballots can be accessed on the Athens-Clarke County Elections Department website or at their office. Voters can also find personalized sample ballots and voter status information through the Georgia My Voter Page by entering their personal information.
Democratic voters will select candidates in statewide runoffs including Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Commissioner of Insurance, and Commissioner of Labor, as well as local nonpartisan races such as Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission Districts 5 or 9 where applicable. Republican voters will decide runoffs for Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State School Superintendent, Public Service Commissioner District 5 and certain state legislative districts along with local nonpartisan races. Nonpartisan ballots include mayoral and commission district runoffs where relevant.
Advance voting is scheduled from Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12 at three locations: ACC Elections Office (155 E. Washington Street), ACC Library (2025 Baxter Street), and ACC Tennis Center (4460 Lexington Road). Voting hours vary by day but generally run from morning until evening; there is no Saturday voting nor advance voting on Mondays prior to elections.
On Election Day—Tuesday, June 16—all polling locations will operate from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; voters must use their assigned polling places rather than casting votes at the downtown office. There are three precinct changes affecting Precincts 3B (now Bobby Snipes Water Resource Center), 7A (now Athens-Clarke County Library), and 8A (now Hilsman Middle School). For further details about services provided by local government—including facilities management and community programs—the City of Athens operates as a consolidated city-county government across Athens and Clarke County, according to its official website.
