The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Housing and Community Development Department has announced that approximately $1.2 million in anticipated federal funding will be available for local community development projects through the Fiscal Year 2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The funds are expected from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

According to the department, these grants are intended to support activities such as affordable housing initiatives, economic development, public services, and improvements to public facilities. Applications for this funding are open annually and awarded through a competitive process.

The contracting period for approved projects will run from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Nonprofit organizations eligible to apply can submit their requests between October 16 and November 17, 2025.

A virtual informational meeting is scheduled via WebEx on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The session aims to guide nonprofit organizations on accessing these federal resources for local community and housing priorities in Athens-Clarke County.

A recording of the meeting along with application materials will be posted later that day at www.accgov.com/hcd. Interested applicants must submit a Notice of Intent to Apply by October 24, 2025; full applications are due by midnight on November 17, 2025.
