The Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court at 325 East Washington Street, Suite 170, will be closed on Thursday, November 13 and Friday, November 14. The closure is for precautionary treatment after a court visitor showed signs of possible bed bug exposure.
According to officials, the closure and treatment are limited to the Municipal Court area. Other courts and courthouse operations will remain open as usual.
Municipal Court plans to resume normal business on Monday, November 17, 2025. During the closure, no in-person court business will take place. However, the Municipal Court website at www.accgov.com/municipalcourt remains available for online payments and information.
After learning about the potential bed bug exposure, the Athens-Clarke County Central Services Department contacted its pest control provider for assessment and treatment in line with standard procedures.
Bed bugs are small parasitic insects that do not fly and are often transported by people traveling from various locations such as schools or hotels. Their presence is not related to cleanliness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that bed bugs are not known to spread disease or pose a serious medical threat. They can be found in many places, including high-end hotels and resorts.
For more information about bed bugs, resources are available from the CDC (www.cdc.gov/bed-bugs), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (www.epa.gov/bedbugs), and Georgia Department of Public Health (dph.georgia.gov/environmental-health/insects-and-diseases).
