The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department has announced changes to its collection schedule in observance of Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 13, 2025. All compost, garbage, recycling, and leaf and limb collections will be suspended on that day.

According to the department, residents and businesses with service outside the downtown district will see their pickups delayed by one day for the week. Collections normally scheduled for Monday will occur on Tuesday; Tuesday’s collections move to Wednesday; Wednesday’s collections shift to Thursday; and both Thursday and Friday collections will take place on Friday. Customers are reminded to place their trash and recycling roll-carts at the curb by 7:00 AM on their designated pick-up day. The normal collection schedule will resume starting Monday, October 20, 2025.

For customers within the Downtown District who receive commercial or residential services from the department, collections will continue as usual during the holiday week.
