Several Athens-Clarke County government services will have schedule changes for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 1.
The Animal Shelter will be closed that day, with regular operations for fosters, adoptions, and rescues resuming on Tuesday, September 2. Animal Services officers will not respond to non-emergency calls on the holiday but will provide emergency services such as animal bites or seriously injured animals through 911. More information is available at www.accgov.com/animalservices.
All Leisure Services parks, including Sandy Creek Park, will operate with normal hours on Labor Day. The Walker Park Splash Pad will be open from 1:00 to 5:30 PM with a $1 admission fee per person. Other aquatic facilities are closed for the season. Facilities like Sandy Creek Nature Center and Lyndon House Arts Center will be closed on Monday and reopen Tuesday with regular hours. Additional details can be found at www.accgov.com/leisure.
Solid Waste offices will close on Monday. Residential garbage and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day throughout the week; Monday routes move to Tuesday, and so forth until Friday. Downtown district commercial and residential curbside collection remains unchanged, while other commercial services follow the same one-day delay as residential routes. Leaf and limb collection is also delayed by a day beginning Tuesday; updates are posted at www.accgov.com/leaflimb. The Materials Recycling Facility and Landfill are both closed Monday and resume regular hours Tuesday. The CHaRM Facility’s schedule remains unaffected since it is only open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (www.accgov.com/solidwaste).
Transit offices are closed and bus service suspended on Labor Day; all transit services resume Tuesday (www.accgov.com/transit).
All other general administrative offices—including City Hall, Courthouse, Satula Avenue Building, and Dougherty Street Governmental Building—will also close Monday and reopen Tuesday.
