Athens-Clarke County Animal Services has announced a call for temporary foster homes for dogs during the upcoming holiday season. The Couch Crashers program will take place from December 19 to January 2, allowing local residents to care for shelter dogs over Christmas and New Year’s.

According to the announcement, fostering during this period helps manage shelter capacity, lowers stress levels for animals, and can lead to better adoption outcomes. All necessary supplies, including food and veterinary support, will be provided by the shelter.

The program is open to individuals or families able to provide a safe environment and basic daily care for one to two weeks. Participants are expected to offer companionship and ensure the well-being of their fostered dog. The duration of each foster arrangement is flexible within the specified dates.

Athens-Clarke County Animal Services encourages those interested in supporting animal welfare locally during the holidays to consider participating. More information and sign-up details are available at https://accgov.com/9491/Foster-a-Pet. Prospective fosters must complete a screening and orientation before being matched with a dog.
