The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department announced changes to its collection schedule for compost, garbage, recycling, and leaf and limb services due to the Indigenous People’s Day Holiday on Monday, October 13, 2025. Services will be suspended on that day.

For residential and commercial customers outside the downtown district, collections usually scheduled for Monday will take place on Tuesday. Collections typically set for Tuesday will move to Wednesday, while Wednesday collections will shift to Thursday. Both Thursday and Friday collections will occur on Friday. Customers are asked to place their trash and recycling roll-carts at the curb by 7:00 AM on their designated pick-up day. The regular collection schedule will resume on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Customers located within the Downtown District who receive commercial or residential service from the department will not experience any changes and should expect collection as usual.
