Apalachee High School issued the following announcement on Apr. 1.

Congratulations to our members of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) for their exceptional performances at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference. FCCLA is one of our many Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). It focuses on leadership skills and teaches students about addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education.

Twenty-one Barrow County School System students attended the March 2022 conference in Athens, Georgia. Some of the highlights include:

APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL

  • Honor Roll chapter award
  • Recognition for participating in National Programs
  • Nicole Hernandez – elected to Georgia FCCLA State Treasurer
  • Amelia Williams – 1st in Knife Skills State Event
  • Lydie Slamkova – 3rd Event Management STAR Event
  • Amelia Williams and Joanna Tate – recognized in the Say Yes to FCS event

HAYMON-MORRIS MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • 1st place for Financial Fitness state program award
  • Recognition for participating in National Programs
  • Jhiriss Smith and Shelby Ward – 2nd in National Programs in Action STAR Event; advancing to national competition
  • Vendy Slamkova and Lilly Owens – 1st in Focus on Children STAR Event; advancing to national competition
  • Clay Bell, Avery Tuggle, and Zai Lawson – 1st in Interpersonal Communication STAR Event; advancing to national competition
  • Carmen Pedersen – earned Master Adviser

RUSSELL MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • Recognition for participating in National Programs
  • Emma Pitman – 2nd in Creed Speaking state event
  • Emma Childers – 1st in Teach and Train STAR Event; advancing to national competition
  • Trecalia Cunningham – 1st in Sports Nutrition STAR Event; advancing to national competition

WINDER-BARROW HIGH SCHOOL

  • Recognition for participating in National Programs and State Programs
  • Sophia Donovan – silver medal in Event Management STAR Event
  • Three students placed top 10 in State Events
