Adam Fouche has been appointed associate vice president for environmental safety, risk and resiliency at the University of Georgia, according to a May 20 announcement. Fouche had served in this role on an interim basis since July 2025.

The appointment is significant as it places Fouche at the helm of the university’s Risk and Resiliency Division. This division includes the Environmental Safety Division, Fire and Life Safety, and the offices of Emergency Preparedness and Insurance and Claims Management. His responsibilities will focus on campus safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, risk management, environmental stewardship, and ensuring operational continuity for the university.

“Adam brings a unique combination of operational expertise, calm leadership and deep institutional knowledge to this role,” said Ryan Nesbit, vice president for finance and administration. “Over the past year, he has helped guide several critical areas of the university’s safety, preparedness and resiliency efforts while building strong partnerships across campus and beyond. I am confident his leadership will continue strengthening the university’s ability to prepare for, respond to and navigate complex challenges.”

Fouche’s recent work included coordinating responses to two snow and ice storms in January 2026 as well as partnering with the UGA Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems on flood mitigation strategies. He also provided advice to senior leadership on emergency management issues affecting the campus community.

Prior to his interim role as associate vice president, Fouche was executive director of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and Insurance & Claims Management (ICM). In that capacity he led emergency management programs covering more than $5.5 billion in assets; developed a University Assistance Center plan; coordinated recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene; secured nearly $500,000 in federal reimbursements following natural disasters; established a workers’ compensation coordinator position; and oversaw changes in claims processing responsibilities.

Before joining OEP/ICM nearly two decades ago, Fouche worked with the University of Georgia Police Department—most recently as deputy chief—where he managed emergency response operations across campus. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication at UGA as well as a Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University.
